    Driving through this town I was pulled over by a smirking, smug, and unhelpful policewoman (just as I was about the cross into the next parish) who came racing up behind me, pulled me over, and said I was speeding (which I dispute -- she didn't have me on radar or anything). She wrote me a ticket, which I had to sign to acknowledge that I had received. I asked her for an idea of what the fines were and she said she had no idea because they had just "changed the system." I was told I have to appear in court in Grand Isle to contest or admit guilt and pay. All the while she had this big grin on her face. Since I was just driving through to visit, and I live in DC, of course I wasn't coming back for court. There is no online payment information listed on the ticket...so you have to call them. Then, after you call, they direct you to a crappy payment website. And what was my fine for allegedly going "10-15 miles over the speed limit"?? Well it was $227 plus a $5.65 processing fee for a grand total of $232.65. The punishment hardly fits the crime (if there even was a crime). What a corrupt, backward, hillbilly joke. Watch out if you visit this outpost of ridiculousness.
